Meaning of Posterior

Posterior is used in medical, anatomy, and kinesiology terminology to refer to where parts of the body are located, as well as in biology. The video below provides an explanation for the term, useful for fitness trainers or other professionals needing to understand this anatomic reference term.

Posterior means toward the back or to the rear in relation to another structure of the body. The word dorsal is sometimes used in place of posterior.

Example: The gluteus maximus is on the posterior of the body.

Opposite

Posterior is the opposite of anterior, or front.
