What are Nutrients?
A nutrient can be defined as any chemical that an organism needs to survive. Nutrients play key roles in biology that enable an organism to carry out daily functions. All organisms, not just humans, need certain nutrients, but humans need a very diverse set of essential nutrients to remain healthy and survive. Two of the main functions of these chemicals are to provide energy and to help build tissues.
Nutrients are commonly divided into two main categories: macronutrients and micronutrients.
Macronutrients are carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.
Micronutrients are classified into two main groups: Vitamins and minerals.
