Hello to all from Colorado! After emailing with Eric back and forth regarding some of his articles, I finally decided to join so I could post and become more of a "member" rather than a lurker :)
I found this site by doing a search for "volume cycling" when I was looking for an alternative to intensity cycling. I had been running a powerbuilding program that lowers the volume but not intensity every 3-4 weeks (or as needed, really). Previous to that, I had read Starting Strength and Practical Programming. I ran SS for a few months, but while I could see how much in those books could be true, I was unconvinced regarding cycling intensity and later re using straight sets. I guess basically I was looking to create my own system even though I didn't know anything lol. Surprisingly, though, the program I came up with was similar enough to many of GUS's tenets that I was intrigued. The more I read on here, the more I agreed with because I had already gone through the thought process or experienced something similar. It's nice when you agree with someone rather than having to take it on faith.
I'm preparing to return to school at 40 (well, 39 until January). So not sure when I'll get moved, settled into classes, and working. Until then starting a program is not an option unless I want to do bodyweight only as the nearest gym is 40 miles one way. I hope to have enough time to workout 3-4x/wk once school starts…we'll see. At that time I hope to begin a training journal on here, although I don't have video ability and don't plan on spending any $ to upgrade my phone, etc. I know that's a big limiting factor, but so be it.
Really enjoying the articles on here btw!
