Hi guys, I don't have any ankle mobility problems, but my mum does.
Both here ankles are quite stiff, if she tries to do circles with here ankles then one leg jerkily moves around while the other leg cannot even do that. She does exercise, so it' quite problematic, she has a lot of problem executing static-lunges & Bulgarian squats(with proper technique) as a result.

Here are a couple of ankle mobility videos.

The muscles can actually restrict the joint or it can be a case of actual soft tissue restrictions within the joint itself. She can work the back of the leg, calf and soleus with a massage ball or other self massager like a tiger stick if she can get something like that. It really helps.

Sounds like here ankles are severely restricted. Slow and steady wins the race.

She shouldn't be doing bulgarians if she is dong static split squats. She is basically doing a basic split squat and an advanced split squat at the same time. That makes no sense. Both cannot be appropriate.

I wrote an article specifically about this: BASIC Progression and Bulgarian Split Squats and also about the general phenomenon. It's a problem with "bad exercise names again". A Bulgarian Squat should be easily recognized for what it is. But since the exercise name mill doesn't know how to name exercises we may as well name exercises like people name buildings and stadiums. But it is nothing more than a static split squat with the back leg elevated. A more advanced version of a static split squat then.
