Most strength trainees seem to think that their favorite beginner program is a fundamental principle within itself. For instance, Starting Strength is seen in this way. Yet the most basic principle that a beginner needs is progressive overload and there is nothing more basic than adding sets, reps, or weight. That is not a method..that is a principle. You add to what you did before in a progressive fashion, up to a point.
I want to once again, remind everyone that most rationales for the appropriateness of a particular one size fits all program are invented after the fact.
