I'm kind of getting tired of the word corrective. I don't mean you using it I mean in general. It's "maintenance". Like when Joe says to do hand extensions with the rubber band. It's not 'corrective' because you're not fixing anything. You're covering your bases to prevent fixing things. So yeah, it's a good idea but I do not think it is essential and don't overdo it in terms of weight and volume.
If you read the last entry in the Training to Fail series you'll see where I was talking about this subject. It's gotten to the point where some people are making perpetual patients of themselves and have forgotten why they train for strength. I think as you get into planning your training and get more sophisticated with it you'll find that you just don't have time to do all these hundreds of little interventions all the time. You'll do them sometimes but you'll be more focused on primary advancement…and the sky will remain in place.
So work some of those in sometimes but don't over-stress about all this stuff.
Yeah, Anuj, Poliquan is just one of those guys who seems to have to basically sell thinly disguised bodybuilding concepts to a strength training audience…and call them "principles". And the ability to go on and on without hardly saying anything. I believe he says most things off the top of his head simply because he can. People kiss your ass long enough your start to believe your own bullshit. Here is one of my favorite of his:
"I tell people who get certified by me that if they can't get a female to do 12 chin-ups in 12 weeks, then they don't know how to train. That's how you can evaluate a good trainer. If he can get a female to do 12 chins, he's a good trainer. If he doesn't know how to do it, then he doesn't know training. Period."
Such unmitigated BS I can't even begin to think why anyone who had ever trained an average female would say it. It's possible yes but not at all something to be expected across the board. Even if you make a lot of assumptions about what he meant…like she is not overweight, etc…it is ridiculous.
