Take the ~90% weight you used for all the singles and perform two to three sets for reps to near failure.

This is what threw me. By stating "all the singles" I took it to mean the repeated singles rather than the max. I think it would be clearer if it said something like "Take the ~90% of the relative max" or "Take the same ~90% weight you used for al the singles".

I'm not understanding what the difference is but I'll change it to make it more clear. Thanks, Leather.

OK thanks guys, that's what I thought but i just wanted to be sure.

I can't find where I used the working "90% of the singles". If I wrote it that way it would be a mistake. Point it out to me if I did so, but I cannot find it.

The first line under the heading "Day 4" states:

Take the ~90% weight you used for all the singles and perform two to three sets for reps to near failure.

This is what threw me. By stating "all the singles" I took it to mean the repeated singles rather than the max. I think it would be clearer if it said something like "Take the ~90% of the relative max" or "Take the same ~90% weight you used for al the singles".

Not a big deal, it might just be me misreading it.

Thanks again.

^^^ Yes, and in the example in the article, 130lbs IS 90% of the relative max (in the example) which has been the same "working weight" all along.

After you establish the weight, based off 90% of whatever relative max you hit in the very first workout, that is the weight you work with the while entire time. You are simply adding reps to it for the next two workouts, and then moving into SDT progression. So the only reason I keep talking about "90%" is so people don't get confused.

E.G. Say I have a max of 100 then I would have performed several singles with 90% of this weight. So when it says 90% of the singles are we talking 90% of the original max or 90% of the "weight you used for all the singles".

Just to be clear, I bolded the part that is correct in your quote.

I can't find where I used the working "90% of the singles". If I wrote it that way it would be a mistake. Point it out to me if I did so, but I cannot find it.

IF your Relative Max is 100 lbs, then all the singles, then doubles and then triples for Weeks 1, 2 and 3 respectively will be 90 lbs. Correct?

For Week 4, you will not warm up to your Relative Max. Instead, you will take 90 lbs and do 2-3 sets for reps to near failure.

That is what Eric is saying.

In short: you are manipulating volume all across the board but keeping intensity the same.

Query on Day 4 Weight

Hi Eric,

I am just about to start running this on the press and having re-read the article I am a little puzzled on the day 4 weight.

The article states (my emphasis):

Take the ~90% weight you used for all the singles and perform two to three sets for reps to near failure.

So I am taking this to mean 90% of the multiple singles which we at about 90% of the relative max.

E.G. Say I have a max of 100 then I would have performed several singles with 90% of this weight. So when it says 90% of the singles are we talking 90% of the original max or 90% of the "weight you used for all the singles".

A little further on it mentions the weight 130 for reps, which in these examples is 90% of the relative max so that makes me think I have misunderstood this week:

Do a set of 130 pounds to NEAR failure

Thanks,

Leather.
